I've reduced my waxing service waste by eliminating paper and cotton wax strips, and only offer premium peelable vegan wax for all my organic waxing. Yet there is the unavoidable waste of wooden spatulas, especially when I provide a no 'double dipping' service. Waxing that cares for people, animals and the planet!
Unable to source a certified organic and vegan wax, I opted for the premium Outback Organics Opal wax. It's made with botanicals and synthetic ingredients and uses up to 60% less product than traditional hot wax, reducing my wax waste further. In the future I'd like to provide the specialist biodegradable and eco friendly service of Sugaring - the ancient Egyptian art of removing unwanted hair from the face and body - using 100% natural, vegan and certified organic ingredients: sugar, lemon and water (mixed into a thick paste). Bacteria can not breed or survive in sugar, making the treatment safe for both your body and the environment. Double dipping (the act of repeatedly using the same spatula on a client by returning it to the pot of wax after each application) wooden spatulas in my opinion is risking cross-infections but by using the more hygienic method of single dipping creates additional impact and waste. So to offset my combined environmental impact and waste, I've pledged to donate 10% from the sale of each wax service to the World Land Trust for their Buy An Acre programme. We share a belief that by protecting land, acre by acre, is the best initial action needed that will together help prevent wildlife extinction and tackling climate change. PROTECT HABITATS The World Land Trust's Buy an Acre project gives overseas partners the vital resources they need to purchase land and protect it – whether it is a wildlife corridor linking isolated reserves, or tropical forest threatened by deforestation. FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE Intact, healthy forests are the green lungs of the planet, taking CO2 from the atmosphere and locking it away. Saving the world’s last remaining forests is a crucial way of tackling climate change head on. SAVE SPECIES Buy an Acre projects target areas with high biodiversity that are also home to threatened wildlife like the Jaguar, and species yet to be discovered. Saving land can their prevent extinction. World Land Trust's printable PDF on the Buy an Acre programme HERE.
