Organic Facial & Face Yoga Aftercare

You will be advised on a home care programme to suit your skin's needs. If you're unsure about any suggestions made or would like further support with your home routine, feel free to make contact HERE.

The following professional advice will ensure you get the most from your organic facial or Face Yoga class and help minimise the chances of experiencing any irritation after your treatment or session:

- Avoid additional skin treatments for at least 48 hours after a facial
- Avoid scrubs and exfoliants for up to 72 hours after a facial
- Avoid excessive sunlight and heat sources (saunas, sunbeds and sunbathing) for at least 48 hours after a facial
- Avoid touching your face as this can block the newly cleared pores
- Allow your skin to breathe by avoiding makeup or self-tan application for the first 12-24 hours after treatment
- Drink an additional litre of water to aid the flushing of toxins from your skin
- Continue product use at home for maximum and lasting results, these can be purchased in full or luxe sample sizes
- Use a fragrance free/eco friendly laundry soap on your pillow case and change your case 2-3 times a week

Changing over to cleaner, organic skincare and stimulating the skin through Face Yoga can cause the skin to flush out all the rubbish its been holding onto, which may lead to a breakout of spots. Even though spots are an unwelcome event, these spots are a good indicator that your skin and the skincare products are working effectively.

Help me to help you get the best skin health you desire, and maximise the results of your organic facial treatment / Face Yoga class by following my professional advice set out below.

Apply products in an upwards and outwards, circular massaging motion to the decollette, neck and face.

DAILY ROUTINE:

DOUBLE CLEANSE - morning and evening. It's more important to double cleanse in the evening to clear the debris, make-up and pollution off, allowing the skin's natural functions (mainly regeneration) to work efficiently through the night.

SPRAY TONER - morning and evening after cleansing, and during the day over make-up to refresh the skin's balance.

FACE YOGA - morning and evening, after toner.
The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method that I teach will give you a toolbox of techniques for a stronger and healthier skin structure. Target your areas of concern and practice a couple of facial exercises and self massage techniques during your skincare ritual. Doing just 5 minutes every AM and PM can make a real difference.

SELF MASSAGE - morning and evening after toner. Apply thinner formulation products first i.e. serums first, oils second, creams or balms last. Really take the time to apply each layer of products correctly and with nourishing intention.

TWICE A WEEK ROUTINE:
EXFOLIATE - twice a week in the evening, after your double cleanse and toner. If using an exfoliant with granules, gently buff the skin for a minute allowing the product to work for you. Please do not over-scrub or be too rough as this can cause more damage than benefits and it takes the skin longer to repair itself. If using a fruit enzyme exfoliant, apply during a shower or after a steamy bath allowing the heat can activate the enzymes. Leave on the full facial area for the maximum time suggested, but no longer, you'll be delighted at how effective enzymes are!

TOP TIP: If you're wanting to clear blocked pores over the nose area, use the fruit enzyme exfoliant over the specific nose area only for 3 or 4 evenings in row. This will deeply clear the pores, it is not recommended or needed every week, just on occasion throughout the year.

STEAM - twice a week in the evening, after exfoliating. Fill a bowl with hot water (see the blog post Herbal Steam), then place a large
towel over your head and then hang your head over the bowl for about 15 minutes. You want to make sure your face is catching the steam, but no so close that it hurts! Steaming will give you a deeper cleanse, boost circulation and better absorption of the products that follow, all of which result in healthier glowing skin.

TREATMENT MASK - twice a week in the evening, after you've exfoliated and steamed. Apply the mask, leave on and relax for the recommended time. For an additional skin boost, massage the mask into the skin during that time. Some face masks can be left on over night as an intensive night treatment, when doing this I would suggest putting your serums and facial oils on first, then use the mask as your night cream. Otherwise, remove the face mask and continue with your nightly routine: toner, face yoga, serum, oil, cream or balm.

Your skincare routine will be tailored specifically for you and your needs. If you have any queries about your routine, please contact me HERE.

In the very unlikely event you experience a reaction i.e. rash, swelling, soreness, or scabbing - remove the product and apply a cold compress until symptoms pass. If the reaction continues after 24 hours I recommend you visit your GP or A&E, and please inform me as soon as possible.

Organic Massage, Beauty Rituals & Holistic Therapy Aftercare

The following professional guidelines will ensure you get the most from your organic treatments and minimise the unpleasant experience of the body's healing process (also known as the Healing Crisis) as it clears out the emotional and physical junk.

- Rest as long as possible after treatment. Ideally book your treatment for the end of your busy day, or during a peaceful day off. Rushing around after a treatment will put additional stress on your systems, causing your body to hold onto and create further internal tension - undoing the therapeutic benefits of the treatment you booked!

- Avoid stimulating foods such as chocolate, caffeinated drinks, alcohol and heavy meals. Aim to eat lighter meals after treatment to ensure that you're aiding your body in its detox rather than overloading it.

- Drink an additional litre of water to assist the flushing of toxins from your body. As well as hydrating you this is helpful in alleviating most healing crisis symptoms (see details below).

- Avoid further body treatments for 24 hours, allowing your body adequate time to rebalance.

- Practice breathing exercises enables you to take in oxygen to your fullest capacity, helping with cellular regeneration, immunity boost and reducing stress.

Everyones at home self-care advice will be designed for them and their needs. If you feel unsure about the suggestions made or want some further support with you home routine, please get in touch HERE.

ABOUT THE HEALING PROCESS/CRISIS
In general the more emotional, dietary or environmental toxins you’ve accumulated over time, the more severe the effects of the detoxing healing process can be. This is important to know especially for those on medications, as massages and holistic treatments can have an eliminating effect on medications which could cause additional side effects.

The healing crisis is an indication that the process of detoxification is working, and that your body is cleaning itself of impurities, toxins and other wastes. These symptoms can be experienced as welcome relief and/or unpleasant depending on what your body needs to rid itself of.

Symptoms are temporary, but can show themselves immediately after treatment (sometimes during treatment), within a few days after treatment or even a few weeks later. Symptoms may include:
- Increased joint or muscle pain
- Diarrhoea
- Constipation
- Fatigue and/or restlessness
- Cramps
- Headache
- Change in blood pressure
- Insomnia
- Aches, Pains
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Sinus congestion
- Chills
- Frequent urination
- Skin eruptions: boils, hives
- Flu-like symptoms
- Strong emotions: anger, sadness
- Suppressed memories
- Anxiety
- Mood swings
- Phobias
If you're the rare case and are experiencing a reaction e.g. rash, swelling, soreness, or bruising - remove any skincare product and apply a cold compress to the affected area until the symptoms pass. If the reaction continues after 24 hours I recommend you visit your GP or A&E, and please do inform me as soon as possible.

Organic Waxing Aftercare

You will need to take some extra care for the few days following a waxing service - even when the redness is gone. Nearly everyone uses this return to normal colour as the marker that their skin is fixed but you should keep putting the Pinks Boutique Organic After Wax Calming Lotion on for at least 4-5 days after waxing. This is a beautiful non-toxic moisturiser, feel free to use it on the rest of your body too, even after sunbathing - the lavender, calendula and aloe vera ingredients are perfect for calming, cooling and hydrating the skin.

The following professional advice will ensure you get the most from your organic waxing service, minimise the risk of infections (in addition, see the 'Double Dipping' blog post HERE), and allow you to care for your skin correctly. Please do follow the waxing aftercare advice between 2-4 days after your treatment.

- Do NOT take a hot bath or shower. Cool to lukewarm water only
- Do NOT use saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments
- Do NOT tan: sunbathing, sun beds or fake tans
- Keep the freshly waxed area clean and dry
- Avoid heat and friction
- Wear clean, loose fitting clothes
- Avoid sports, gym workouts or other vigorous exercise
- Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands
- Avoid swimming
- Do NOT apply any cosmetics to the freshly waxed area, other than those professionally recommended to you

TOP TIP: If you're wanting waxing done before a holiday, ensure you schedule the booking in at least 4 days before you travel to prevent any after treatment reactions and to allow you skin time to heal. This way you'll be ready to swim on your first day away!

SELF CARE
INGROWN HAIRS - there are two types that you may notice 1) hairs that get stuck under a thin layer of skin and 2) hairs that get stuck and start to turn around, causing pustules. To prevent either types, ideally you will initially be moisturising daily with the After Wax Calming Lotion. Then after 3 or 4 days of healing, start with a gentle bi-weekly exfoliation. Continue to moisturise daily, especially after exfoliating.

BATH SALTS - these are high in minerals and other naturally occurring elements with various antiseptic and soothing properties for the skin. A handful of Dead Sea salts added to bath water is a pleasant way to both prevent and treat bacterial infection in the follicles.

EXFOLIATION - s
tarting a few days after your wax, exfoliate gently in the bath or shower up to three times a week. Be mindful that your loofah or bath scrunchies will harbour all manner of mould and bacteria if not kept clean and dry. Rinse them thoroughly after every use, leave to air dry naturally, and replace on a regular basis.

PREPARATION - It also helps if you dry body brush lightly every morning for a few days before your next waxing appointment, to lift the hairs and slough away any dead skin cells that might otherwise cause poor waxing results.

GROWTH CYCLE - you may notice a small amount of re-growth within the first two weeks after treatment. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. Once your growth cycle is giving you maximum results from the waxing, to maintain your smooth appearance, I will recommend waxing every 4-6 weeks depending on the body part and your individual growth cycle.

HAIR LENGTH - needs to be at least 1mm long before it can be successfully removed by the wax; please do not use any other hair removal methods between your appointments as this interferes with the hair's growth cycle.

ADDITIONAL INFO FOR THE GUYS
For you gents, the chest and back areas are especially prone to infection and acne-like breakouts in the days following treatment, particularly if its your first time. It's a good idea to bring a clean cotton t-shirt with you to change into after your back or chest wax. This can go a long way towards reducing any post-wax irritation, especially in hot sticky weather or if you're coming to your appointment straight from work in a collar and tie.

Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 48-72 hours. If you're experiencing a strong reaction i.e. rash, swelling, or painful soreness - remove any products and apply a cold compress until the symptoms pass. If the strong reaction continues after 24 hours I recommend you visit your GP or A&E, and please inform me as soon as possible.
