How Does Face Yoga Work?
FACE EXERCISES
Essentially it's Yoga for the face! To stay toned and firm your body needs regular exercise, so do the 57 muscles in the face and neck. As these much smaller muscles become stronger through resistance exercise they are lifted and firmed. At the same time the skin attached to the facial muscles is also lifted and tautened, thus reducing lines and wrinkles.
FACE MASSAGE
Regular massage to the facial area using correct massaging techniques increases the blood and lymphatic circulation. This helps to nourish and detox on a cellular level and reduces poor skin tone, puffiness and dark circles.
The massage techniques in the Face Yoga method also increase the collagen and elastin fibres within your skin; the natural plumping and strengthening agents, making for a firmer and healthier complexion.
ACUPRESSURE
This age-old technique works by pressing on particular points of the face. This can increase the flow of the subtle energy or prana in the facial area, in turn reducing tension, increasing circulation and giving a healthy glow to the skin.
RELAXATION
Learning to relax and let go of tension held in the face and neck will help to reduce and prevent the deep set lines and wrinkles caused by stress, squinting or grimacing. The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method allows you to relax the face correctly giving it a more open, youthful appearance.
WELLBEING
What happens on the inside, radiates on the outside. Taking time to implement the Wellbeing aspect of The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method will do wonders for your overall health and happiness. Belief that you'll look and feel better, may allow you to feel calmer and a lot more energised as well as looking more youthful and healthier.

How Do I use The Face Yoga Method?
The techniques and exercises can be done standing, sitting, reclining or laying down. To begin with, it's helpful practising your technique in front of a mirror. Remove contact lenses or glasses before you start. Just gentle pressures are sufficient to see quick results, there is no need to press too hard on any of the exercises. Breathe deep towards the diaphragm, inhaling and exhaling through the nose unless otherwise directed, as this will relax the mind and muscles meaning your Face Yoga session will be even more effective.
It's strongly recommended to drink a glass of coconut or still water after workouts to hydrate the tissues and help with toxin removal. Following the wellbeing techniques can help you to living a healthy lifestyle, bringing even quicker results. Yoga for the body will also help with making improvements to your face and wellbeing.
Generate positivity, gratefulness and happiness, exercise the mind and body, eat and drink cleanly, lower your toxic intakes and use high quality skincare.

How Does Face Yoga Affect My Skin?
The exercises within The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method work the hypodermis (the muscles and fatty tissue), the dermis (connective tissue) and the epidermis (the skin cells). By working all three of these layers correctly it will increase the fluid circulation (lymph and blood), allowing more oxygen and nourishment to reach the cells of the skin.
The results are a clearer, healthier complexion with a youthful glow which has less toxins and has a better ability to retain and absorb moisture. The massage techniques are designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the middle layer of the skin giving you a smoother, more supple and taut, tighter-looking skin.

Will Face Yoga Give Me Wrinkles?
No. All the face and neck techniques work in a controlled way. Take going to the gym or attending an exercise class as examples, you work the body, firming up muscles and improving skin texture and tone. The same principle applies for the face and neck. Creating lift and promoting a firmer, more youthful-looking face is due to resistance facial exercise which works by building the muscle, reducing wrinkles.
To ensure none of the connective tissues are broken down, all the techniques in this Face Yoga method are designed to work with all three layers of the skin. By massaging correctly you'll feel your skin will have better circulation, become smoother and firmer, toxins will be flushed out and tension reduced. As the facial skin (especially the eye area) is thinner than on the body, it is important to remember to use a lighter touch.

Will I see Visable Results?
You will see and feel some difference during or after your first session. Your muscles may feel they have had a good workout (just like when you exercise the body), you will see and feel less tension in the face and you will have a rosy glow from the boosted circulation.
Everyone is different so the time it takes to see changes varies from person to person. As a general rule you'll start to see more long term improvement in the face and neck after 2 weeks. Practicing for 2-4 months, you'll notice fewer fine lines and less tension and people are sure to notice you looking healthier and more energised. Within 6-9 months, people have reported that they look and feel many years younger and much more relaxed within themselves.

Do I Have To Practice All Poses Every Day?
Not at all. If you have a specific area of concern, you can practice targeted poses for problem areas. Once you form the habit of practicing Face Yoga you can choose to add in extra techniques to aid relaxation and drainage.
For best results, do a manageable and enjoyable amount for you, practicing 6 out of 7 days instead of doing a long practice once a week. In the same way that you wouldn’t bust a gut in the gym or hot yoga class for hours on end in one session and then forget about exercise for the rest of the week. Constancy is the key!
Remember that taking 20 minutes for yourself to do this will also do wonders for your overall wellbeing. Take this time to relax, do something for you. Knowing you will look and feel better as a result may mean you also notice yourself feeling calmer and happier.

Should I do Face Yoga More Than Once A Day?
Once a day for 6 days a week is recommended for the 10 Min Upper Face Workout and the 10 Min Lower Face Workout. Just like the body it's not recommended to over exercise the face. Muscle fatigue may result causing the body to spend more energy on healing, rather than strengthening.
It would cause no real harm if you did but to give a balanced, healthy complexion and to bring quick results, it is best to stick to the recommended amounts. Combining the addition of relaxation, acupressure and massage techniques will benefit the above workouts.

I’VE HAD COSMETIC / PLASTIC SURGERY, CAN I STILL DO FACE YOGA?
Yes. The facial exercises are all safe for those who have had cosmetic surgery but please do check with your doctor and or specialist before you start the exercises, as there may be a time period after surgery where you must allow the surgery to heal. The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method will still give your face a fresh glow, reduce damaging build up of tension and potentially reduce the need for further cosmetic surgery.
Does It Matter If I Don't PRACTICE Face Yoga For A While?
You may notice a slight difference in your face when you don’t do them for a while but your face won't suddenly drop or droop. It's best to do the exercises as recommended but if you can't and you go a while without doing so, don’t stress about it. Also, know that the facial muscles have a 'muscle memory' so when you start working out again, usually you can just pick up where you left off!
Should I moisturise before or after a Face Yoga Session?
I strongly recommend using a certified organic moisturiser between the facial exercise workouts and the massage techniques.
Are There Any Saftey Aspects To Consider?
It's always advised to attend Face Yoga classes with a teacher 1:1 to ensure you are performing the exercises correctly, as well as to learn any modifications suitable for your individual needs (health complaints or skin issues). Always ensure you work to your own comfortable limit. All exercises and techniques in the Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method have been designed to be safe and beneficial for you.
